We just got this amazing high quality mammoth Ivory netsuke  – We got it named as Old Man Boiling water but we don’t think that this is the correct  title for that netsuke. This Japanese Old man not just boiling water in a Tea Pot it’s just not make sense – Take a good look on the scissors that in the hot coils just next to the tea pot.  As well it’s look like the Old man is Praying – is hands lifted to the sky & he is shooting  – he looks like he is in a trance or kind of meditation. So what kind of Ceremony  – It’s very hard to tell but i am sure that he isn’t just boiling a water. In addition, On the right side of the Old man , attached to his kimono belt we can notice at umbrella & on the left there is an open book on his hip.

Today at  the Daily Netsuke collection we got High quality museum quality netsuke of Mother carrying her son on her back(piggy back) while she is carrying her child she holding Tea Pot in her right hand & in her left hand she is holding  a Food cover in a towel(piece of cloth) in order to stay warm. To my opinion she is on her way to give to her husband his lunch. The child is peeping at us behind his mother shoulder.

These two Gods are  Daikau that sitting on Huge Rat holding his traditional hammer & a bag & Ebisu that sitting on Red Sea Bream(In Japan that fish alone is a symbol of good fortune as well) Huge Fish & holding his rod They are both members of Japan’s Seven Lucky Gods.

Ebisu & Daikoku are often paired with . Indeed, in some traditions, Ebisu is considered the son of Daikoku. Statues of the pair can be found everywhere in modern Japan.
