The Netsuke of three Japanese Man Playing Go – In Japan’s 17th century Go was very popular Game & Most of the Aristocrats were playing the Game. In 1609 the Emperra of Japan assigned the best GO player in Japan named Nikka, to the minister of GO. After his appointment Nikka opened a GO school & after him, competitors Gos school was opened. These officially recognized and subsidized Go schools greatly developed the level of play and introduced the dan/kyu style system of ranking players^. Players from the four schools (Honinbo, Yasui, Inoue and Hayashi) competed in the annual castle games, played in the presence of the shogun.
